On January 18, Pakistan announced a series of precise and coordinated military strikes on several separatist hideouts in Sistan and Balochistan within Iran’s borders, especially in areas around Saravan, as these attacks killed nine non-Iranians. The Pakistani attacks come after Iran targeted the “Army of Justice” group in Pakistan with rocket strikes, resulting in a number of casualties.
Tehran and Islamabad’s attacks come amid a turbulent internal and external context for both countries, including the Karman bombings, the political instability in Pakistan, as well as escalating tensions in the Middle East.
