Rebuilding the Gaza Strip has gained a lot of attention lately, but it will not be easy given the uncertain nature of the ongoing conflict and the initial estimations of the required financial resources. This calls for effective ways and alternatives for evaluating the damage and formulating a plan for when the war ends.
Due to the lack of precise data on the extent of the losses incurred to the strip as a result of the ongoing targeting of facilities, different estimations of the necessary amounts—which are regarded as a minimum—have been made. For instance, the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Palestine Investment Fund (PIF) believes that the strip needs to construct 150,000 housing units at a cost of roughly 15 billion dollars, citing the fact that 350,000 housing units were subject to total or partial destruction and that, as previously mentioned, the required support is considered to be at a minimum. In addition to that, estimates from other authorities vary, indicating that Gaza needs between 41 and 50 billion dollars for reconstruction, while other estimates reach approximately 100 billion dollars.
