The New Republic and moving toward the future

02/04/2024

Since President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi assumed office in 2014, the new republic has established a new intellectual, social, and humanitarian system that reflects a desirable future for all citizens in their relations and interactions with the state on the one hand, and their relations and interactions with each other on the other.

Instituting this new republic became the vision of a leader, the path of a nation, and the effort of institutions and individuals towards a structure worthy of Egypt, as a state, leadership, and people.

The June 30 Revolution represented both the spark and the primary driving force for the founding of the new republic and the advancement toward a more promising future that builds upon and absorbs the knowledge and experience of the past.

Since the Egyptian citizen is the tool and goal of development, rebuilding him became the cornerstone of that new republic, and hence, strategies were formulated and policies were made aimed at improving the conditions of citizens in various fields, and much work is still awaited.

Empowering youth occupies an important priority in the process of instituting the new republic, as they are the energy that leads the future, and the state of ambitious development towards a better future depends on it. Several accomplishments and gains have been achieved for youth during the era of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, which had never been achieved in previous eras, out of belief in the role of youth in creating the present and future of their country, so there was continuous support for their qualifications to assume leadership positions as a second class in state agencies within the framework of refining expertise and acquiring the skills required to lead the future.

Perhaps one of the prominent features of this new republic in the field of youth empowerment was evident in President El-Sisi’s direction to build bridges of communication with Egypt’s youth from all governorates through youth conferences and forums.

Perhaps the President’s speech on International Youth Day represents an absolute belief in this strength, enthusiasm, and energy that coalesce with the future and push in the direction of building it stable and prosperous. His Excellency said, “My faith in youth has always increased day by day. The more I contemplate how they shape their present and build their future, the more I believe that youth are the key to a more stable and peaceful world.”

Thus, President El-Sisi establishes a national charter to institute the new republic based on frankness and openness, enhancing forms of political and social participation, supporting the national economy, and continuing emphasis on the constants of the Egyptian state and its Arab and African strategic depth.

Instituting the new republic through this National Charter faced – and still faces – major challenges on multiple internal, regional, and international fronts, all aimed at trying to undermine stability and insisting on building a better future, as Egypt and its stability represent a fundamental pillar for the stability of the entire region.

Since Egypt is the principal nation that has assumed responsibility for providing safety and support for all of its neighbors and brothers throughout history, there is a widespread understanding that Egypt’s stability and efforts to improve its future represent a significant contribution to Arab national security.

Instituting the new republic and its basic pillars does not represent a step forward for Egyptians and the Egyptian state alone, but rather represents a governing element for the development of the entire Arab regional environment and a starting point towards sustainable regional prosperity. The new term of the President, which extends between the years 2024 and 2030, coincides with the steps of building and strengthening the foundations of the new republic with unyielding determination and an interwoven fabric between citizens and institutions, sending a message to everyone that Egypt is seeking one goal, which is a better future for all.

In conclusion, we hope that this scientific publication issued by our center – the National Center for Middle East Studies – will serve as a “proposed action plan” that outlines the features of the future based on interpretation of the present and the conviction that science is the foundation of advancement.
