The Nairobi Declaration and efforts to resolve the Sudanese conflict

24/05/2024

Former Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, Abdel Wahid Mohamed Nur of the Sudan Liberation Movement, and Abdel Aziz al-Hilu of the SPLM-N, signed, in the presence of Kenyan President William Ruto, the “Nairobi Declaration,” aiming at ending the armed conflict that has been ongoing in Sudan since April 2023, between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.

The Nairobi Declaration comes within the framework of initiatives undertaken by Sudanese civilian political forces in coordination with some armed movements and groups, in an attempt to end the ongoing armed conflict in the country. The success of these initiatives remains dependent on the availability of political will on both sides of the conflict to cease-fire, return to the political track, and settle the crisis by peaceful means.
