Priorities for a comprehensive settlement of the Libyan crisis

25/06/2024

The resignation of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, on April 16, and the Acting Head of the United Nations Mission of Support in Libya (UNSMIL), Stéphanie Khoury, represents a new point of order in the course of the Libyan crisis, which must be taken into account, in addition to reconsidering the political process sponsored by the international organization, which has not yet succeeded in putting an end to the cycle of transitional stages that has continued since 2011.

This coincides with the continued division of local parties and foreign powers over the process of comprehensive settlement of the Libyan crisis, a situation that is likely to worsen in the coming periods, as a result of the exacerbation of the division occurring between the major powers and their interference in the Libyan field, which imposes restrictions on the movements of local parties and concerned regional powers
