Turkish-Syrian relations have taken a positive turn recently, as demonstrated by positive official statements between the two sides, which may push towards restoring bilateral relations between them. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced on June 28 his willingness to restore diplomatic ties between Turkey and Syria, and also stressed that there is no Turkish desire to interfere in Syrian affairs.
The Turkish desire for rapprochement with Syria lies in its attempt to find a way to solve the issue of Syrian refugees, especially after the Turkish failure to reduce their economic burdens, whether through their deportation or the failure of the residential communities that were built with Qatari support to accommodate the refugees.
