The intensity of the Houthi group’s attacks on cargo ships and oil tankers crossing the Red Sea escalated, forcing a number of major shipping companies to direct their ships to suspend traffic through the Red Sea and sail via the Cape of Good Hope route. The US also launched Operation “Prosperity Guardian” to protect Marine navigation in the Red Sea and Bab Al Mandab Strait. The effects of these movements on the security of the Red Sea are reflected on several levels, which raises questions about the extent of those effects, and how to reduce their repercussions. In this context, the Center organized a panel discussion on the current situation in Bab Al Mandab, the movements of the concerned parties, and the consequences of the current and expected movements on the Middle East and the world.
